We do encounter challenges during networking and configuration of QuickBooks data file for multi-user access, but the problem of wireless networking not strong enough or the firewall on the workstation preventing the user from accessing central data are more often and prominent.
Today, we were faced with an unusual firewall security challenge at a client’s office (a fast-growing private school with multiple locations). They use the Pro version of QuickBooks, which had already been cut off from automatic updates, and they requested an upgrade to Premier – a better version that accommodates a higher volume of transactions with up to five (5) allowable users.
After configuration of a two (2) user system and a setup of the company file on a host server for shared access, one of the systems blocked the file from accessing QuickBooks with the below summarized messages:
“The computer (host) server is configured to allow shared access but your system can’t open the file. This may be due to firewall configuration on your network.”
